Keto Surf & Turf is not only delicious but also a healthy keto recipe. It contains a small amount of carbs. A good proportion of other nutrients (healthy fats & proteins) is also present. A combination of seafood & steak gives many beneficial nutrients to everyone. A dish called “surf and turf” includes both seafood & red beef. You may choose the type of steak you like, & seafood can also be of your choice. Here we are going to use sirloin steak & shrimp. The shrimp will be more economical than other seafood. The Keto Surf and Turf only has 1.4 g of net carbs/serving.

INGREDIENTS:

 

STEAKS:

  • Oil of olives, 1 tbsp
  • 4 Sirloin steaks, 6 ounces each
  • Half tsp of powdered peppercorn
  • Sea salt, 1/2 tablespoon

GARLIC BUTTER:

 

  • Minced garlic, 2 cloves
  • Rosemary (fresh), half tbsp
  • 6 tablespoons of butter (salted/unsalted)
  • 1/2 tsp of chopped parsley (fresh)
  • Thyme (fresh), 0.5 tablespoon

SHRIMP:

 

  • Normal-sized shrimp, 12 ounces

INGREDIENT NOTES:

 

GARLIC BUTTER:
Garlic gives a classical taste to the butter. You need to mix the butter (softened) along with minced garlic (fresh). The fresh garlic gives more taste & aroma, but if you don’t have it, then you may use canned minced garlic. The addition of the combo of your favorite herbs will make it more yummy.

TURF:
There are a variety of steaks you can try in this recipe:
Ribeye steak
Garlic butter steak bites
Filet mignon
Tomahawk steak
NewYork strip
Here the recipe uses sirloin steaks. Keep the thickness of the steak to only 1 inch.

Oil of olives:
Here we are using oil of olives (extra-virgin/light) in different steps to make the dish. You are free to use any type of oil (avocado, coconut, or sunflower seed).

SURF:
Surf normally consists of any seafood. Here we are using shrimp. It is the seafood that will be easy to cook & light on the pocket as compared to other seafood.
You may cook the shrimp with garlic butter/coconut recipe. You may use fresh/frozen shrimp based on the availability. It needs to defrost before cooking if using frozen. Must peel & deveine the shrimp first. If you like the shrimp to be more flavorful, then don’t remove their tails.

You may go for other seafood options as well (lobster tail, scallops, crab legs).

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEAKS MAKING:

  1. If you have steaks in the fridge, then you should take them out.
  2. Allow them to come to normal room temperature.
  3. Use the brush to apply oil on both sides of the steak.
  4. Then dust with salt & powdered peppercorn on both sides of the whole surface.
  5. Use your hands to stick the seasoning so that it doesn’t fall off.
  6. Switch on the stove & set the flame to normal-high heat.
  7. Place the skillet/grill pan (cast iron) on it to heat it well.
  8. Include the seasoned steaks in that heated pan.
  9. Give it 4/5 minutes to get done from the bottom.
  10. Then flip & give 2–7 minutes to cook the other side.
  11. When it’s done according to you, then check the meat’s temperature.
  12. If the thermometer shows 160 degrees, then your steaks are very well tenderized.
  13. Dish the steaks out & pack them to keep them warm.
  14. Turn the switch of the stove off & allow it to cool down a little.
  15. Next, clean the pan from any residue so that it is ready for the following action.

GARLIC BUTTER:

  1. Place a vessel on the working table.
  2. Gather all the components for making the butter (garlic)
  3. Include them in that vessel.
  4. Mash the butter well & mix all the items till well combined.
  5. Your butter of garlic is ready to use.
  6. Use the fridge till you need it in your recipe.

COOKING SHRIMP:

  1. In the heated pan while the flame is still off, include butter of garlic, only two tablespoons.
  2. Coat the whole pan while melting the butter by moving it around the whole pan.
  3. After melting the butter, switch on the stove to a normal flame.
  4. Place all of the shrimp in a layer in the pan right away.
  5. Give them 1/3 minute on one side, & then flip to give the same time to the opposite side.

SERVING:

  1. Place a serving plate on your counter.
  2. Arrange a steak on one side & pour a tablespoon of garlic butter over it.
  3. Place the cooked shrimp next to it with garlic butter on the top of the pan.
  4. Juice a lemon over both to spike the taste.
  5. Your surf & turf is ready to serve.

TIPS:

  • If you have steaks that are thicker than half an inch, then broil them in the oven.
  • Let the steak rest after cooking for 5/6 minutes; that helps to raise the temperature by 5 degrees.
  • Select the temperature according to the tenderness of the steak you want.
  • Check that using the thermometer to have the perfect tenderness you want.

STORAGE INFORMATION:

The dish tastes best when fresh, but if you have some of them remaining, then pack them in the locked container.

FRIDGE:
Use the fridge to keep the remaining surf & turf for 2/3 days.

FREEZER:
You can keep your surf & turf frozen for three months. It will not taste as fresh, but you may freeze it if you want.

REHEAT:
When you want to reheat them, use the oven or skillet. We recommend you heat them separately, as shrimp heat faster than the steak.
It is not necessary to use the remaining stored surf & turf as it is. Use that in other dishes like soups and salads.

How do we get to know the correct internal temperature of steak?
Refer to the following chart to have & choose the temperature according to the tenderness you want.
The temperature should be 120 degrees F if you want the rarely cooked streak.
The temperature needs to be 130 F if you want to aim for an average rare cook.
When your thermometer shows 140 degrees Fahrenheit, your steak is medium-cooked.
To have a medium-well-cooked steak, the temperature should be 150 degrees F.
When your thermometer shows 160 degrees, that means you have a well- & thoroughly-cooked steak.
